I'm not exactly sure what a DS lite is. I remember telling some woman in a Wal Mart once that a lite was a DS you could use out in the sun, because original DS's had to be in darker areas. I hope I was right

It's pretty much the same thing except the screen can be brighter and you can play longer, and it's smaller.

DS Lite is surely better, but if you already have a regular DS, then there's no point to switch unless you want a better wireless connection.

I'm going to say Nintendo DS because the lite came out a week after I bought mine and I just want to think it's better. ^.^;
